Yvonne Sandison

Yvonne Sandison

1944-2015

Born Yvonne Edelfeda Ramirez on Nov 14, 1944 in Georgetown, Guyana. She moved to Toronto in 1969, followed by sister Carmelita and her family. She married Derek Sandison in 1979 and had two children, Scott and Leigh.

She was known for the amazing sense of humour that stayed with her through even her last days. She always told it like it was and was one of the most laid-back ('don't fatigue yourself'), strong, stylish, well-written, smart, courageous, beautiful women on the planet.

A field hockey player from early days in Guyana, a woman who valued education as paramount, a seamstress throughout the years, a world traveler. A lover of music and dance, one who appreciated great literature and a serious sport fan - both playing and cheering from the sidelines. She loved nature, was an avid gardener, and marveled at the beauty of the world.

She always knew how to make you laugh, most often with quick one-liners directed at Dad, her sense of timing was perfect.  No one was too old to call 'boy' or 'girl' and she always gave immense empathy and support to anyone she came into contact with. Devoted to family and friends, she was always there to cheer you up with a 'this too shall pass' or 'it's only a game' depending on the circumstance.

Yvonne was an extremely well loved wife, sister, mother, aunt and friend and she is dearly missed, but as she wisely said in her last days:  'You know Derek, we should count our blessings'

Thank you from all of us, for bringing such joy, laughter and love to our lives.
